    2019-12-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE tech firm Tencent probed 40 corruption cases in the first three quarters of the year and more than 60 employees were fired for irregularities, according to a notice released by the Shenzhen-based company on its official public account last week.

More than 10 people have been handed to police for criminal investigation.

In the notice, the company said the irregularities and crimes were mainly regarding assets embezzlement and bribery. They involved many departments, including the Technology and Engineering Group, Platform and Content Group, Interactive and Entertainment Group, and Cloud and Smart Industry Group.

In the notice, the company also released a list of entities with whom the company will terminate cooperation permanently. The entities, mainly suppliers and partners, were suspected of offering bribes to make illicit profits.

In the notice, the company said it was determined in its anti-graft campaign and anyone who had stepped across the six “high-voltage lines” would be punished.

The six “high-voltage lines” refer to the irregularities that are intolerable to the company, which include fabrication, bribery, leaking information, unfair competition and conflict of interest.

One of the typical cases involved Hu Xinghao, a former employee with the Technology and Engineering Group who abused his power to embezzle corporate assets. Hu was fired and handed over to the judicial department for criminal investigation. Another 13 people in 10 cases were also fired and put under criminal probe for crimes like taking bribes, embezzlement and abuse of power.

Since 2018, Tencent’s anti-graft team has handled more than 100 corruption cases, and 150 people have been fired for serious violations.

More than 30 people have been criminally investigated.

In 2015, a mid-level manager of Tencent was sentenced to nine years in prison for taking bribes and kick-backs worth millions of yuan. Two other executives were charged with the crime of embezzlement for taking 41.6 million yuan in tax rebates.
