Drugs seized

POLICE in Southwest China’s Yunnan Province captured two suspects and seized 114.72 kg of drugs in a recent cross-border drug trafficking case, local authorities said yesterday.

After five hours of searching, police in the China-Myanmar border city of Jinghong, the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, found 10 boxes of drugs among 2,400 boxes of bananas, during a check on a truck carrying bananas from Myanmar on Dec. 13.

Further investigation into the case is under way.

New railway

NORTHWEST China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is scheduled to open a new railway in May next year, which will be an important part of the region’s railway network, local authorities said yesterday.

The construction of the Afuzhun (Altay-Fuyun-Zhundong) Railway, measuring more than 400 km, began in December 2015. It will play an important role in strengthening the links between the region and other localities.
