NANSHAN District had the most congested expressways, main roads and secondary roads in Shenzhen in 2019, while six of the most congested subdistricts in Shenzhen are located in Luohu District, according to the city’s traffic operation command center.

On the basis of the hierarchy of roads and a real distribution, the center released rankings of the top 10 busiest expressways, main roads, secondary roads and subdistricts.

Binhai Boulevard (Nanhai Boulevard-Nanshan Boulevard, westbound) has been ranked first among the top 10 congested expressway sections in Shenzhen for two consecutive years. Traffic congestion deteriorated on the road section last year with an average speed of 14.6 kmph.

Xiangmihu Road (Qiaoxiang Road-Beihuan Boulevard, northbound) and Fulong Road (Liuxian Boulevard-Nanping Expressway, northbound) rank second and third, with average speeds of 16.3 kmph and 20.1 kmph, respectively.

In general, the average speed of the 10 most congested expressway sections and main road sections in Shenzhen was 21.2 kmph and 12 kmph, respectively, during the rush hours of working days in 2019.

The top three most congested main road sections were Nanshan Boulevard (Chuangye Road-Binhai Boulevard, northbound), Jihua Road (Banxuegang Boulevard-Wuhe Boulevard, westbound) and Guimiao Road (Nanxin Road-Nanshan Boulevard, westbound).

The average speed of the top 10 most congested secondary road sections was 9.6 kmph during the rush hours of working days.

Nanguang Road (Binhai Boulevard-Xuefu Road, northbound) tops the list with an average speed of 6.8 kmph.

Lianhua Road (Xihuan Road-Jihua Road, eastbound), Jubao Road (Luosha Road-Xianhu Road, northbound), Tairan Ninth Road (Binhe Boulevard-Shennan Boulevard, northbound) and Nanguang Road (Chuangye Road-Dengliang Road, southbound) are all new entrants to the list.

In terms of area, the top 10 most congested subdistricts are mainly located in Luohu and Futian districts, with six in Luohu and three in Futian.

The six subdistricts in Luohu include Guiyuan, Nanhu, Qingshuihe, Dongxiao, Cuizhu and Dongmen. The three in Futian are Huafu, Yuanling and Huaqiangbei, while Yuehai Subdistrict in Nanshan is new to the list.  (Zhang Yu)
