Palace Museum relics exhibited in Macao
    2020-01-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

An exhibition presenting the collections of the Palace Museum in Beijing is being held at the Macao Museum of Art.

The exhibition, titled “The Long Journey: The Forbidden City and Maritime Silk Road,” seeks to lead visitors to revisit the magnificence that ensued in the course of Chinese and Western cultural exchanges by displaying cultural gems associated with the Maritime Silk Road.

It features nearly 150 exquisite cultural relics that are mostly from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, including tributes presented by foreign envoys and objects brought by Western missionaries, and calligraphy and paintings produced in the court by these missionaries, as well as various goods purchased by or custom-made for the court, or made by imperial workshops.

All of them highlight the rich fruits of the courts’ exchanges and interactions with the outside world, illustrating the splendor of the Forbidden City culture in fine contrast with other cultures along the Maritime Silk Road.

Dates: Until April 13

Meanwhile, another exhibition using digital interactive technology to display the Chinese masterpiece “A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains” is also being held at the museum.

The “A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains 3.0” exhibition illustrates the extraordinary charm of the painting of the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), the largest piece among extant Chinese blue-green landscape paintings.

The digital scroll — 35 meters in length and 6 meters in height — is the world’s first dynamic digital scroll with multichannel technology and real-time interaction with the audience. It is equipped with the function of changing appearance to represent different seasons and weather.

Through the combination of traditional artistic techniques and innovative digital technology, it allows the audience to feel the magnificent landscape in the painting, as well as the philosophical sentiments behind it.

Dates: Until March 15

Hours: 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (closed Mondays)

Tickets: Free

Venue: Macao Museum of Art, Xian Xing Hai Avenue, Macao(Xinhua)
