Air passenger volume hits record for 1st week of Spring Festival travel rush
    2020-01-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE volume of passengers traveling through Shenzhen International Airport exceeded 1.13 million during the first week of the Spring Festival travel rush period, also known as “Chunyun” in Chinese, and broke two records in terms of daily outbound passenger volume and daily inbound and outbound passenger volume, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.

The daily outbound passenger volume exceeded 90,000 both Wednesday and Thursday, while the daily inbound and outbound passenger volume surpassed 170,000.

According to the airport, passenger flow at the airport has remained at a high level since Jan. 10, the first day of Chunyun, with more than 1.13 million trips having been made in the first week, up nearly 8 percent over the same period last year.

More than 1,100 flights departed and arrived at the Shenzhen airport on average every day in the six days of the first week of Chunyun, said the airport.

Additionally, various airlines at the airport have opened more flights to meet the travel needs of citizens, adding a total of 365 extra flights in the first week.

As for rail service, Shenzhen North Railway Station and Shenzhen Station handled 230,000 passengers and 106,000 passengers Saturday, respectively.

From Jan. 10 to Saturday, Shenzhen Station had transported a total of 644,000 passengers, including 276,000 passengers on long-distance trips, 35,000 passengers taking the Guangzhou-Shenzhen intercity rail and 18,000 passengers taking the Guangzhou-Kowloon train.

Shenzhen East Station had transported 281,000 passengers on long-distance trips as of Saturday. A total of 925,000 trips have been made from Shenzhen Station and Shenzhen East Station, which saw a drop in passenger volume compared with the same period last year.

As of 6 p.m. Friday, Shenzhen North Railway Station had transported more than 1.51 million and received 996,800 passengers, up 13 percent year on year.

Shenzhen North Railway Station has opened 47 verification channels, including 33 self-service verification channels and 14 manual verification channels, for this year’s Spring Festival travel rush.

Meanwhile, eight new security inspection machines have been added and 29 security inspection channels have been opened for passengers entering the station.
