AN all-Chinese final has been set in the mixed doubles, while their compatriots failed to reach the women’s singles final at the Indonesia Masters badminton tournament in Jakarta on Saturday. Spain’s world No. 1 Carolina Marin denied the chance of China’s leading player He Bingjiao with a straight-set win in 50 minutes, 21-11, 21-19, while Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon beat Wang Zhiyi 21-12, 23-21 in the other semifinal. In the mixed doubles play, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong set up a final encounter with fellow Chinese Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping after the top-ranked Zheng/Huang eased past Malaysia’s Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing 21-15, 21-15 and Wang/Huang defeated French pair Delphine Delrue/Thom Gicquel 21-19, 21-16. Zheng/Huang will vie to defend their title in Sunday’s final. A year ago, the pair beat the 2016 Rio Olympic champions and local favorites Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir to lift the trophy. Also on Saturday, Indonesian Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu made the women’s doubles final after defeating South Korean Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong 21-19, 21-15. They will play Denmark’s Maiken Fruergaard/Sara Thygesen on Sunday after the latter beat Japanese Matsutomo Misaki/Takahashi Ayaka 22-20, 22-20 to reach the final. (Xinhua) |
