Work starts on corridor’s eastern artificial island
    2020-01-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE reinforcement cage of the diaphragm wall for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan (Shenzhong) Corridor has been successfully installed, marking the beginning of the construction of the eastern artificial island, according to SZTV news.

The installation also marked the acceleration of the construction of the S03 control project for the Shenzhong Corridor, said the report.

The tunnel project for the S03 project, located at the south side of the Shenzhen International Airport, near Fuyong Port, includes a cofferdam extending 560.6 meters.

It is said to be the first time the country has built an undersea diaphragm wall. Successful operation requires forming a land mass on the silt before beginning construction.

The complex geology, which has backfilled sand on the top and clay-like soil at the bottom, has made the project more challenging.

Work on the eastern man-made island will continue during the Spring Festival holiday in order to ensure its conclusion by the end of January 2021, according to the report.

The most key infrastructure project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Shenzhong Corridor is expected to be put into use in 2024, shortening the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from two hours to 30 minutes, which is of strategic significance for linking the city cluster of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou to the cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing, according to the SZTV news.
