Zheng, Huang regain mixed doubles title
    2020-01-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

DEFENDING champions Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong on Sunday regained their mixed doubles title at the Indonesia Masters 2020 after defeating their compatriots Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping in Jakarta.

The world No. 1 mixed doubles downed world No. 2 pair in the event by 21-9 and 21-9.

In a press conference Sunday, Zheng said he and Huang managed to beat Wang/Huang in 25 minutes as the former believed that the latter could not give their maximum performance.

“Our opponents were not in a fit condition which of course affected their performance in the match,” Zheng said.

“Honestly, their performance was usually not like that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Huang said that supporters in the arena also contributed to their victory.

“We thank our supporters in Indonesia for keeping their support on us. We are so happy we can be the winners here again,” she said

In the same tournament last year, Zheng/Huang successfully beat Indonesia’s top shuttlers Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir.

Tontowi/Liliyana, who were the champions at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, were defeated with scores of 19-21, 21-19 and 21-16.

The Indonesian Masters 2020 kicked off last week and ended Sunday at the Istora Senayan sports stadium in the country’s capital city of Jakarta.

This year, the total prize money of the Indonesia Masters is US$400,000.
