SHENZHEN Metro implemented a real-name ticketing system yesterday to ensure passengers are traceable in case of suspected novel coronavirus infection.

The single-ride token ticketing system will be suspended. Riders who already use the QR codes for boarding the Metro are not required to re-register their information, according to the company.

But those who use the prepaid Shenzhentong cards must complete registration via QR code.

At the same time, to ensure passengers are traceable, the company has introduced an onboard information-sharing system by posting a QR code in each compartment, which riders are required to scan as soon as they board the train.

These upgraded measures provide the city’s center for disease control and prevention (CDC) with accurate information in the process of screening passengers for outbreak prevention and control purposes.

Elderly passengers above the age of 65 or physically challenged persons who are entitled to free Metro fare must also register to use the real-name ticketing system.

All passengers must go through temperature checks, and those with high temperatures and a cough will be refused entry.

The city’s tram service in Longhua District also adopted an onboard information registration policy yesterday. Passengers are required to scan a QR code on the tram to register their personal information.

The number of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) in Shenzhen had increased to 414 by the end of Saturday, while 115 patients had been cured and discharged from the hospital, the city’s CDC said yesterday.
