THE upcoming bi-monthly session of the top legislature — the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress — will discuss a proposal to postpone this year’s NPC plenary session. The NPC plenary session conventionally kicks off March 5 every year, with about 3,000 national legislators traveling to Beijing from across the country for the session. Committee members will also review a draft decision to ban the illegal wildlife trade, to abolish the bad habit of eating wild animals and to better safeguard people’s health and safety, according to a chairpersons’ meeting of the NPC Standing Committee held yesterday in Beijing. The NPC Standing Committee usually meets once every two months. The upcoming meeting will start on Feb. 24. The top political advisory body, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, will also consider postponing its annual plenary session. (China Daily) |
