Posthumous honor granted to role models
    2020-02-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE All-China Women’s Federation made a decision published yesterday to honor a doctor and two local officials who fought on the front-line of the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic as national-level female role models.

The honor was awarded posthumously to Xu Hui, Huang Heyan and Jiang Na, according to a statement from the federation.

Xu was the deputy head of Nanjing Hospital of Chinese Medicine and a leading doctor of the hospital’s special team on prevention and treatment of the novel coronavirus disease outbreak.

After 18 days of devoted and continuous work on the front-line against the epidemic, Xu died of a sudden illness Feb. 7, said the statement.

Huang was a local official in the town of Yunwu in Southwest China’s Guizhou Province. During the epidemic, Huang visited the villagers for health checkups and carried out publicity on epidemic prevention and control.

“Her dedicated work has protected the health of her fellow villagers, but unfortunately Huang died of a sudden illness on Feb. 2,” said the federation.

Jiang was the deputy secretary of the Party committee and chairwoman of the Women’s Federation in the town of Qianqihao in Northeast China’s Jilin Province and had been working at grassroots communities for 19 years.

Jiang worked on information collection and epidemic knowledge publicity in the town. She died Feb. 4 in a car accident during her trip to check on the epidemic prevention and control work and distribute drugs.

Xu, Huang and Jiang are three representatives of the countless outstanding women fighting in the front-line of epidemic prevention and control, said the federation.
