GD confirms 3rd imported case
    2020-03-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GUANGDONG reported a third imported COVID-19 case, the Guangdong Municipal Health Commission said Monday.

The case was the only newly confirmed COVID-19 case in the province Monday.

The patient, a 19-year-old Chinese woman, returned to Guangdong via Shenzhen from studying at a university in Madrid, Spain. The patient arrived at the Hong Kong airport Sunday then took a taxi to Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint at 9 a.m.

At the border she passed temperature checks and provided nucleic acid test samples before passing into Shenzhen. She was advised to pay special attention to any changes to her health condition.

From the border she was picked up by her parents and brought to Dongguan, where she remained in isolation at home and wore face masks. On Sunday evening, the woman had contact with three couriers to receive parcels.

Her nucleic acid test results were released Monday and showed positive for COVID-19 infection. The patient was subsequently transferred to a hospital for isolation and treatment.

Six people who had close contact with her are also now under isolation and observation, and Guangdong authorities have updated their Hong Kong counterparts with the information.

The woman is the third imported case of the novel coronavirus in Guangdong, following two others who were discovered in Shenzhen.

The second imported COVID-19 case was a 70-year-old Chinese woman who returned from Spain and arrived in Shenzhen on March 2. Shenzhen discovered the case Friday.

The first was discovered March 1. The male Chinese patient surnamed Sun, 35, had taken a flight from London to Hong Kong on Feb. 28 and was confirmed infected March 1 after having fever symptoms and undergoing a medical check at a hospital.

As of 8:27 p.m. yesterday, Guangdong had reported a total of 1,353 COVID-19 cases, 1,274 of which had been discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery.
