Mandatory quarantine for people arriving in GD from overseas
    2020-03-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

STARTING Thursday, all travelers to Guangdong Province from overseas, both Chinese travelers who returned from a foreign country and foreign nationals who visited one of the 19 countries hard hit by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 14 days, will be placed under a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival either at home or at a designated quarantine point, according to Guangdong’s COVID-19 prevention and control commanding office.

The 19 countries are South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, Germany, France, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Thailand, the Philippines, Switzerland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, Austria and Malaysia.

Nucleic acid tests will be free for all arriving travelers from overseas, including Guangdong residents, non-Guangdong residents and foreign nationals, according to the office.

All expenses including accommodation and food that are incurred will be borne by individuals during the 14 days of concentrated medical observation at a designated quarantine point.

Those diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning from overseas will have to pay for their own treatment bills if they are not covered by either the country’s medical insurance or their own commercial insurance.

Government subsidies will be available for patients from outside the Chinese mainland who have enrolled in national basic medical insurance.

Those who are not national basic medical insurance holders must cover their treatment fees or resort to the commercial insurance they have purchased.

Medical assistance, however, is available for those who are not covered by the basic medical insurance but experiencing financial difficulties.

China’s national basic medical insurance covers COVID-19 treatment and reimburses a considerable portion of the medical bill after it surpasses a certain threshold of personal payment.

While Guangdong’s indigenous infections have tapered off, it has reported increasing numbers of imported cases from abroad amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Figures from the provincial health authority showed that Guangdong reported nine new confirmed COVID-19 cases, all imported from overseas, Wednesday, including five in Guangzhou and two in Shenzhen. All new confirmed cases reported nationwide Wednesday were imported from overseas.(Wei Jie)
