Business street regains vitality
    2020-03-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

MORE than 98 percent work-places in Huaqiangbei, the No. 1 electronics products business street in China, have resumed business operations with daily averages of around 100,000 people gathering the area, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported yesterday.

To prevent cross-infection, the Huaqiangbei Subdistrict Government Office is carrying out 14 disinfections per day.

“Business has been seriously affected, but compared with the early days of work resumption, transactions are increasing,” said a businessman surnamed Li selling electronic components at SEG Electronics Market.

During the outbreak, Huaqiangbei Subdistrict set up 180 tents outside its buildings, allowing buyers and sellers to complete transactions in ventilated areas without making direct contact. SEG Group also exempted businesses in Huaqiangbei two months of rent totaling 65 million yuan (US$9.2 million).

“In the past month since work has resumed, we have been busy as temperature-check devices are in a big demand,” seller Rao Meinong said. Prices for sensors have increased 10-fold, partly driven up by the cost of labor and materials, whose logistics have been disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Rao has recently exported temperature-check devices to Malaysia and Singapore. “We previously exported just a few thousand products per year, but in the past month, we have exported nearly 20,000,” Rao said.
