THE 2020 Open Data Innovation Contest (2020SODiC), an activity jointly organized by Huawei Cloud, the Shenzhen data and information administration and the district government of Nanshan, was launched at the Huawei Developer Conference on Friday, offering awards totaling 2 million yuan (US$281,800).

A total of 60 teams will be awarded and a single prize is capped at 200,000 yuan.

The winning teams will also be granted Huawei cloud resources worth 300,000 yuan in addition to research achievement transformation incentives offered by the Shenzhen city and Nanshan district governments.

The contest will last three and a half months and is divided into four categories: Data innovation, data analysis, algorithm and a special Nanshan District-themed contest. The contest covers many fields, including COVID-19 prevention and control, social governance and people’s livelihoods.

Shenzhen will make public 270 million pieces of data for contestants to learn from, training by and use. The data include information regarding COVID-19 prevention and control, environmental protection, medical treatment and quality of life, social governance and transportation.
