2 more imported COVID-19 cases confirmed
    2020-03-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN confirmed two new imported COVID-19 cases Sunday, bringing the number of imported cases in the city to 32, the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission reported yesterday.

A 19-year-old male student of Chinese nationality returning from the United States was confirmed as having the virus Sunday. An official said he flew from Washington to Los Angeles on flight UA719 on March 18, then boarded flight CZ328 for Guangzhou and entered the Chinese mainland via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on March 20. He was later sent back to Shenzhen in a designated vehicle for observation. On Wednesday, he began to feel unwell. The next day, he was sent to a hospital by ambulance, and his test results released the same day were negative. However, his preliminary nucleic acid test results and reviewed results released Saturday were both positive, and he was confirmed as having COVID-19 by medical experts Sunday.

The patient has been transferred to the Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment. Primary tracing results show that no person on the Chinese mainland has had close contact with the patient.

An 18-year-old male student of Chinese nationality returning from the U.S. was also confirmed COVID-19 on Sunday. He flew from San Francisco to Guangzhou on flight CZ658 on Wednesday and entered the Chinese mainland via Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on Friday. He reported symptoms including headache March 15 while he was still in the U.S. as well as ongoing symptoms including coughing, phlegm and a slightly runny nose. His body temperature upon entry was within the normal range. He was sent to a designated quarantine point in a designated vehicle for observation after being sampled at customs. His preliminary nucleic acid results released Saturday and reviewed results released Sunday were both positive, and he was soon confirmed as having COVID-19 by medical experts.

The patient has been transferred to the Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital for treatment. The one person on the Chinese mainland who has been identified as having close contact with the patient has been quarantined for medical observation.
