Jackie Chan’s series receives low score
    2020-04-07  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINESE historical light comedy “The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty,” produced by kung-fu star Jackie Chan, recieved only 5.3 out of 10 on Chinese reviewing website Douban since it was premiered on the iQiyi streaming platform April 1.

Jointly presented by iQiyi and Zhejiang Guanya Culture Film & Television, the 48-episode series stars Taiwanese actors Darren Chen, Fu Meng-po and Alyssa Chia and tells the detective story of a mid-ranked official and an imperial guard. The two join hands to crush a conspiracy and maintain peace for the people. The thumbs-down comments by the audience are mainly centered on the performances by actors Chen and Fu, who almost have no facial expressions in the drama.

Before the series was premiered, iQiyi announced that Jackie Chan’s stunt team created the action sequences in some hilarious scenes with intense martial arts performances. And the costumes, make-up and set are faithful to styles of the Ming Dynasty’s Chenghua period.

“The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty” is the first online drama produced by Chan. The international edition of the drama will be available with subtitles in English, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese and Malay.
