EXPATS in China can now have a news channel to get to know about Shenzhen as the English-language Shenzhen Daily app was officially launched yesterday.

By downloading the Shenzhen Daily app, which is available in app stores for Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi phones, among others, you can read daily news, watch bilingual videos, learn languages, and keep yourself up-to-date with hot local events.

The app, which is free of charge for all subscribers, is one of the few English-language news apps in South China, Winton Dong, editor-in-chief of Shenzhen Daily, said.

It consists of seven main sections, namely news, features, videos, photos, opinion, education and the Expat Guide. The news section covers local, national and international breaking news. The features section includes reports and information on culture, travel, lifestyle, entertainment and hotels. The Expat Guide section provides hot events in Shenzhen, as well as important life information for expats, like visas, entry & exit policies and FAQs related to COVID-19.

During the COVID-19 battle, the app provides daily updates on the epidemic in the city, including figures and other government releases.

“The launch of the application is a key step for Shenzhen Daily to carry out media convergence and expand its publication channels, as well as an inherent requirement for the city of Shenzhen to become an international metropolis,” said Dong.

Founded in 1997, Shenzhen Daily is the only daily English-language newspaper in the Pearl River Delta area. As the leading news platform in South China, it covers local, national and international breaking news and in-depth stories, featuring hot local events and reviews from its own columnists. Dedicated to English-language media for over 20 years, it has won extensive praise in the industry with its diversified and globalized perspectives, as well as its professional and profound content.
