13.98m IPR infringement items seized in 2019
    2020-04-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN Customs seized a total of 13.98 million fake products, including counterfeit phones, bags and memory chips in 2019. The 6,104 documented cases are part of an increase of 198 percent year-on-year, according to a news conference Sunday, the World Intellectual Property Day.

“Since the beginning of 2020, Shenzhen Customs has launched two special campaigns on IPR protection and will cooperate with related departments to clamp down on IPR infringements in trade,” Tu Lin, deputy chief of Shenzhen Customs, said at the news conference.

Customs has also released 10 typical cases of IPR violations against proprietary owners.

In August 2019, Wenjindu Customs found 12,000 sets of ear phones, 5,000 mobile phones and accessories with the trademarks of VIVO, OPPO and Mi, and 2,000 brand-name bags of LV, GUCCI, BURBERRY and RAY-BAN that had not been declared to customs by the e-commerce exporter.  The products were later confirmed to be counterfeits.

In June, Shatoujiao Customs imposed fines on an export company for exporting 4,992 iPhone7 LCD screens and 8,000 iPhone7 plus LCD screens that infringed on the rights of the proprietary owners.

In 2019, Shenzhen Customs transferred 17 IPR infringement cases to police and collaborated with the courts on the rulings of the cases, forming a positive, and efficient, cooperative mechanism with related agencies.

China’s market regulator has released an action plan on protection of IPR, detailing major tasks for 2020 as the country steps up efforts to spur innovation and foster a better business environment.  (Han Ximin)
