Locals who did not attend Shenzhen Library’s past events can now watch videos of the events online. The library has posted hundreds of videos of its past lectures, concerts, exhibitions and competitions on its WeChat account “szlibrary” and will post more in the future. Last year, Shenzhen Library held 1,788 events for it’s fans, including handicrafts exhibitions, computer-programming workshops, traditional Chinese music concerts, experimental music concerts, lectures on health care and culture, quiz shows, and poetry recitals. With a collection of 4 million books, Shenzhen Library aims at promoting the lifelong education of readers and has held lots of activities to promote literary enjoyment. As a basic cultural facility in Shenzhen, the library is not only a palace of knowledge, but also a significant symbol of urban culture. Meanwhile, Shenzhen Library is recruiting 500 volunteers to work on its Self-Service Libraries which are outside of Shenzhen Library and district libraries and in residential areas. The volunteers’ responsibilities include helping readers operate the self-service machines, such as borrowing or returning books and applying for a reader’s card, promoting Shenzhen Library’s services to locals, and keeping the Self-Service Libraries environment neat and clean. Holders of library cards who are aged between 12 and 65 can apply. Inquiries: 8284-1211, 8284-1212, 8284-1217 (Cao Zhen) |
