A HIKING group, consisting of 22 children aged between 6 and 12 years old and a lead teacher, was rescued by police after getting lost in a forest near the border of Shuizukeng Village in Pingshan District and Daya Bay in Huizhou City, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported. The Pingshan public security bureau immediately sent more than 50 police officers to search for and rescue the group after receiving their call for help. Police and fire departments in Huizhou also contributed to the rescue effort, according to the report. The 22 children and their teacher were reported to be trapped on top of the mountain near a reservoir called Shitouhe. Poor lighting conditions at night together with rough and slippery routes to the top impeded the progress of rescue workers. After three hours of effort, the rescue team finally located the trapped children and teacher. All children were carried back down the mountain around 1 a.m. Wednesday. It was said that most of these children are from Shenzhen and they were sent by their parents for the outdoor activity through a WeChat account called Tongquxingzou. An experienced outdoor enthusiast surnamed Li said the route is not a good choice for children as it is one of the most famous, and difficult, hiking routes in Shenzhen. In another development, two mountain climbers were rescued Sunday by police after being lost in Maluan Mountain in Yantian District for five hours. Dapeng police also received a call for help from two citizens. One of them suffered a sunstroke on his way down Qiniang Mountain while the other experienced muscle cramps resulting from dehydration, said the report. Rescue workers brought glucose and drinking water to the two tourists and sent them to Nan’ao Hospital for further treatment. (Wang Jingli) |
