8 local firms in top 60 of CSR index
    2020-05-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A TOTAL of eight Shenzhen-based enterprises are among the top 60 listed in the corporate social responsibility index (CSR) (2019-2020), according to the list released by the People’s Daily’s Chinese Brand Development Institute.

Tencent tops the list with an index of 147.75. Evergrande Group ranks third (144.81) while Huawei ranks 10th (137.56).

Based on data, together with scientific evaluation tools, the index ranking reviewed companies from six aspects, namely national contribution, social contribution, economic contribution, environment contribution, industry contribution and corporate governance.

It also took the firms’ social acceptance into consideration and finally selected the top 60 companies to make the list.

In terms of industries, those in finance, Internet, energy, comprehensive real estate and home appliances showed better performance in the CSR.

Tencent achieved over 108 billion yuan (US$15.2 billion) in revenue in the first quarter of this year, up 26 percent year on year.

Its net profit was 27.08 billion yuan, up 29 percent year on year, according to the report released by Tencent.

During the epidemic, Tencent’s online videos, music platform and other paid content saw a fast growth due to the fact that more people were staying at home and had turned to online entertainment.
