    2020-05-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THREE Shenzhen designers stood out at the 10th International Space Design Award —Idea-Tops, an important award which identifies outstanding talent in the field of architectural and interior design.

More than 1 million viewers at home and abroad tuned in to watch the award ceremony of this year’s Idea-Tops online, which was held in Shenzhen on Saturday.

Except for the vacancy in the Transportation Space category, awards for the rest of the 17 categories were taken home by designers from Australia, the U.K., the Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Spain, Vietnam and China. Overseas designers won nine awards, while domestic designers received eight awards.

Domestic designers performed well in this year’s Idea-Tops. A total of 33 pieces of work shortlisted for the global nomination awards came from China, accounting for 43.42 percent of the total.

Designers from Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu shared the eight best design awards, indicating that Chinese designers have started to make waves in the global design pool.

Yuqiang & Partners Interior Design, a design firm based in Shenzhen, won the top prize in the Exhibition Space category, giving it another victory at Idea-Tops since 2016.

JC Design, another local design agency, won the best show flat award, while Shenzhen designer Zhou He, an emerging star in the design industry, came out on top in the Display Art category.

Han Wangxi, director of the Shenzhen Innovation and Creative Design Development Office, said that Idea-Tops has become the most important design award with global influence in China after 10 years of development.

“Idea-Tops has opened up the industrial chain of the design sector and promoted industrial upgrading with pioneering design concepts, which is of great significance to boost the cultural and creative industry in Shenzhen,” Han was quoted as saying.

According to official data, the number of participating countries and entries in this year’s Idea-Tops reached a new high. The organizing committee received 7,637 pieces of work from 53 countries and regions.

The 10th International Space Design Award—Idea-Tops was organized by the Idea-Tops organizing committee, Council for the Promotion of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation and Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology.
