Deputy calls for boosting industrial Internet
    2020-05-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINA’S digital economy is stepping into a new era supported by new infrastructure, with data as its key elements and industrial Internet as its advanced stage, Pony Ma, a deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC) and chairman and CEO of Shenzhen-based Tencent, said.

For this year’s national parliamentary session, Ma will put forward seven proposals including speeding up working out a national strategy for the development of industrial Internet and fortifying the strength of the digital economy.

Ma suggested speeding up new infrastructure like cloud computing, building a strong foundation of digital economy and making a breakthrough in data integration and sharing, to further push forward the construction of smart cities, smart villages and improve the level of digital governance.

Ma proposed building an industrial Internet platform with international standards to push forward the digitalization process of different sectors of social economy. In the manufacturing industry, for example, the country should speed up construction of intelligent factories and explore the methods of shared manufacturing that can be applied to the whole industry.

In retailing, companies are encouraged to use digital tools like cloud, mini programs and live-steaming to develop their business online and onsite to enhance their customer service capability and push forward development of a contactless economy.

Ma also proposed applying digital technologies like big data, cloud computing and AI as well as innovating application uses to solve the difficulties of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As a business that has been selected to be part of the National Digital Transformation Partner Action, Tencent is now supporting transformation of SMEs through its Digital Ark Program that helps reduce cost, expand their customer base, set up special funds and open technology sources.

Ma also suggested improving digitalization in rural villages and towns, bridging the digital gap between villages and cities and pushing forward high-quality development of agriculture. In village governance, Ma suggested building village Internet information infrastructure and long-term mechanisms to prevent villages from going back to poverty status through digital upgrading.

As a public service to villages, digital education and digital health care could be developed through the construction of new infrastructure that breaks geographical limitations.
