National lawmakers meet today
    2020-05-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE 13th National People’s Congress (NPC), China’s top legislature, will open its annual session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday morning, a key event on the country’s political calendar.

Premier Li Keqiang will deliver a 2020 government work report at the opening meeting, in which he is expected to announce the country’s economic growth targets and stimulus measures.

Around 3,000 legislators will gather to discuss major laws and regulations as well as discuss and approve several key documents, including the government work report and the national budget.

The legislature is expected to pass China’s first civil code, a wide-ranging legislation that will formalize property and per-sonal rights.
