SHENZHEN will distribute a temporary subsidy for unemployed people to help them get through the difficult time amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. The temporary subsidy is made available to low-income people when the consumer price index (CPI) surpasses a certain level set by the authority. The money will be sent directly to people’s unemployment insurance accounts. In addition to unemployed people, citizens who receive the city’s basic living allowance, extremely poor people, and those who enjoy special subsidies will also be given the subsidy, according to staff with the bureau. The amount of the subsidy is defined by three factors, namely basic living allowance standard, CPI growth rate, and adjustment index. The adjustment index takes CPI into consideration. Generally speaking, the higher the CPI is, the greater the subsidy will be. Shenzhen will dispatch double the amount of the temporary subsidy between March and June. The subsidy in April was 292.5 yuan (US$41) per person. When the CPI growth rate falls below the set standard, the temporary additional subsidy will end. (Wang Jingli) |
