豪横
    2020-06-04  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“豪” means “tough, bold and powerful,” and “横” here means “overbearing.” A phrase from the Beijing dialect repeatedly seen in renowned Chinese author Lao She’s works such as “Four Generations Under One Roof,” this term caught on recently after it was used by Little Ear, a character in the popular Chinese TV series “New World.” The term can mean “tough and powerful” or “overbearing and always bullying other people,” depending on the context.

Example:

A: 最近有个女摄影师因为一段视频出圈了,她穿着斯坦尼康身手矫健地在户外拍摄,被称为”豪横姐”。

Zuìjìn yǒu ge nǚ shèyǐngshī yīnwèi yīduàn shìpín chūquān le,tā chuān zhe sītǎnníkāng shēnshǒu-jiǎojiàn de zài hùwài pāishè,bèi chēngwéi “háohèng jiě”。

A woman photographer recently shot to fame on the Internet because of a video clip, in which she worked nimbly outdoors, using a Steadicam to stabilize her camera. People call her “Sister Tough.”

B: 那些器材很重,所以女摄影师很少。

Nàxiē qìcái hěnzhòng,suǒyǐ nǚ shèyǐngshī hěnshǎo。

The shooting equipment is very heavy, which explains why women photographers are rarely seen.
