City plans to build second expressway to Shenshan
    2020-06-05  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A NEW expressway linking Shenzhen and its Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone will be built, according to Guangdong Expressway Network Plan (2020-2035) released by the Guangdong Provincial Transport Department on Wednesday.

The project will be divided into two sections, namely the section between Pingshan and Daya Bay and the section between Jilong and Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone.

The Pingshan-Daya Bay section starts from Phase III of Nanping Expressway and ends at Daya Bay. The Jilong-Shenshan section starts from Ebu Township and ends at Jilong Township in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone.

The two sections are linked by Shenzhen-Huizhou Coastal Expressway and Shenzhen-Shantou Expressway in between.

The 14.6km Pingshan-Daya Bay section includes 12.9 kilometers of construction and 1.69 kilometers of expansion of the present Shenzhen-Huizhou Coastal Expressway, according to an environmental impact report released by the Guangdong Provincial Ecology and Environment Department in April this year.

The Jilong-Shenshan section is about 3 kilometers, and links Shendong Boulevard in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone in the east end to Shenzhen-Shantou Expressway in its west end.

Guangdong is pushing the construction of 2,743 kilometers of expressways including the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor, Guangzhou-Lianzhou Expressway, and the Shantou-Jiexi section of Shantou-Zhanjiang Expressway, according to the network plan.

Between 2021 and 2025, 45 projects will be kick-started including Shenshan No. 2 Expressway. The total budget is 519.9 billion yuan (US$73 billion).

Along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, 13 expressways or sections will be added to improve connections between Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao. (Han Ximin)
