HBO and Sky’s nuclear drama “Chernobyl” leads the pack of 2020 BAFTA TV nominations by a sizeable stretch, having been shortlisted in 14 categories across both the TV and TV craft awards. Announced Thursday, nominations were also doled out to Netflix’s hit “The Crown,” with seven nominations, and six for both “Fleabag” and “Girl/Haji.” “His Dark Materials” and “The Virtues” have scored five nominations, while “Killing Eve,” “Sex Education” and “Top Boy” take four nods apiece. The impressive haul of nominations of “Chernobyl” span multiple categories in the TV and craft awards: costume design, director fiction, editing fiction, make-up & hair design, original music, photography & lighting fiction, production design, scripted casting, sound fiction, special, visual & graphic effects, writer drama, leading actor (for Jared Harris), mini-series and supporting actor (for Stellan Skarsgard). Originally scheduled for this spring, the BAFTA’s TV awards were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Television Awards will take place July 31 and the Television Craft Awards will be held July 17 as closed studio, socially-distanced shows.(SD-Agencies) |
