THE cyber police department of Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau has taken actions against more than 1 million applications that had zero downloads and were against regulations since last year, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday. In addition, the municipal Internet watchdog removed over 2,510 mobile apps that did not comply with regulations, and cracked down on more than 70 illegal mobile apps. The move was in response to a requirement set by the national authorities to ensure operators strictly abide by cybersecurity regulations. Illegal operations include lacking privacy policies, having potential flaws, and illegally gaining permission from users to use their sensitive personal information. An app called Aidezuobiao developed by Shenzhen Panluosi Internet Company, which is used to locate a lover’s current location, was found operating without a privacy policy in the app. In May, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released a list of apps that infringed on users’ rights and required them to make corrections. These platforms include Dangdang, Zuzuche, Edaijia, Wifi Guanjia, Zhihu Daily and Shenzhen-based Qian Qian Music, Southern Metropolis Daily reported. Police advise netizens to take good care of personal information and enhance their awareness of Internet safety. Citizens are advised to download applications from formal app markets and to refuse certain permissions to use personal data when necessary. In case of any illegal operation, citizens can report to a supervision department. (Wang Jingli) s/L35NAaEsWdB1Em9MXkwNgA |
