300 km of bike lanes to be built per year
    2020-06-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN will build at least 300 kilometers of bike lanes per year in its effort to form a slow traffic network, according to the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau on Wednesday.

In the past three years, the city has completed 808 kilometers of bicycle lanes. In 2019, 319 kilometers were built or renovated and 2,000 bike parking places were designated. The slow traffic system will provide an easy, convenient route for pedestrians within a 1-kilometer distance, and bike riders within 3 kilometers.

To meet the demand of long-distance bike commuting, Shenzhen has initiated inter-district bike lane construction. Most parts of the Longhua-Nanshan bicycle lane have been completed, providing convenience for bikers going along Liuxian Boulevard, Meilong Boulevard and Xueyuan Boulevard. The 10.2-kilometer lane links Minzhi in Longhua, University Town in Xili and Dasha River Ecological Park in Nanshan. The bureau has also initiated research on a Longhua-Futian inter-district bicycle lane.
