Hot singers to grace B Site’s graduation concert
    2020-06-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Bilibili, nicknamed by its young users as “B Site,” will hold an online concert July 11 for graduates who may not be able to participate in their graduation galas due to the pandemic this year.

Hot singers and bands, such as Li Yuchun, Mao Buyi, Pu Shu and Escape Plan, will gather at the show to be held July 11 at 7 p.m. on the Bilibili app and its website. Internet users can search the keyword “B站夏日毕业歌会” to watch the show.

Influenced by Western bands such as U2 and Coldplay, the members of Escape Plan have been experimenting with music since its establishment in 2004. In their early days, the band performed at live houses in Beijing. With their fan base growing, the band went on its first national tour, titled “A City Without Sorrow,” in 2009. In 2012, they released their first album, “World,” which included the hit song, “The Brightest Star in the Night Sky.” From 2014, the band started performing abroad, in countries including Japan, South Korea and the United States.

Li debuted her singing career by winning the champion prize at the Chinese singing contest “Super Girl” in 2005. She is known for her lower mezzo-soprano vocal range and boyish appearance. Overnight, she was a sensation in China, and her life became a whirlwind of performances and public appearances. She recorded and released her first studio album, “The Queen and the Dreams” in 2006, and more discs followed. Her concerts were wildly popular and included several annual shows titled “Why Me,” which were staged to thank her fans (who consisted mostly of teenage girls).

Her popularity soon spread beyond China, as indicated by the nod MTV gave her at its 2008 Asia Awards ceremony, where she was named favorite artist from China, and by the enthusiastic reception she received while performing at the 2009 Asia Song Festival in Seoul, South Korea. In 2013, Li won the Worldwide Act Category at the MTV European Music Awards, another indication of the extent of her international appeal.

Mao rose to prominence for winning in the all-male singing competition with his performance of “The Coming One” in 2017. He released his debut album “Perfect Day” in 2018, and achieved two No. 1 slots on the Billboard China singles chart in 2019. Neo-folk singer-songwriter Pu is well-known for his hit songs such as “Life Is Like Summer Flowers” and “Birch Forest.” Some of his songs are sad and beautiful.(SD News)
