Music fans will be treated to some fine piano music without leaving the comfort of their homes this weekend. Shenzhen Concert Hall has arranged its Afternoon Music Time public benefit concert to be livestreamed at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Bilibili app.
Five young talented piano teachers will perform a colorful repertoire, featuring piano four-hand works and a solo piece by our beloved masters.
The program includes tango pieces such as Piazzolla’s “Libertango” and Gardel’s “Por Una Cabeza,” Romantic works like Bohemian composer Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 and Op. 72,” Debussy’s “Menuet” and “Ballet” from his “Petite Suite,” and Liszt’s arrangement of Schubert’s “The Miller and the Brook” and “To Be Sung on the Water.” It will also include Saint-Saens’ “Danse Macabre” (“Dance of Death”), and a piece by Russian composer Anton Stepanovich Arensky. Whether wistful or content, playful or serious, melancholy or exuberant, or sometimes mixed, all the pieces are themed around dancing and dancers.
Chen Shubei, who graduated from the Music Institute of Central China Normal University, was awarded the prize of outstanding tutor at the 11th Chopin International Youth Piano Competition. Zhao Yuxin, who also graduated from Central China Normal University, is the art director for several choruses. Wang Ziyi, a graduate from Jilin University of Arts, is a first-prize recipient of the Hong Kong-Asia Piano Open Competition. Qiang Yuting and Yan Junjie, both alums from Xinghai Conservatory of Music, each received an outstanding tutor award at the 2nd “Xindi Cup” International Piano Open Competition.
No live audience will be attending the concert due to re-tightened social distancing rules of the concert hall, and those interested can scan the QR code to watch the show.(Debra Li) |
