MAP Office to live-stream talk on Pearl River Delta
    2020-06-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Artist duo MAP Office will live-stream an English talk on the Pearl River Delta at 7 p.m. tonight on the Bilibili app.

The duo just exhibited their photos and videos of the Pearl River Delta at the “Image-City-History: Shenzhen 1891-2020” exhibition that ended yesterday in Shenzhen.

MAP Office is a multidisciplinary platform devised by Laurent Gutierrez from Morocco and Valerie Portefaix from France. The duo has been based in Hong Kong since 1996, working on physical and imaginary territories using varied means of expression. MAP Office’s projects have been presented in over 100 exhibitions at prestigious venues including the MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Georges Pompidou Center (Paris), the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing), and at around 35 biennales and trienniales around the world.

Their entire project forms a critique of spatio-temporal anomalies and documents how human beings subvert and appropriate space. Humor, games, and fiction are also part of their approach, in the form of small publications providing additional formats for the dissemination of their work.

Gutierrez has a Ph.D. of architecture from RMIT. He is a professor at the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he leads three master’s programs. Portefaix has a Ph.D. of urbanism from the University Pierre Mendes France. She is an adjunct professor at the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
