Financial program to support basic scientific research
    2020-07-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A MEASURE aimed at supporting basic scientific research in the city’s universities and colleges was recently released, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported yesterday.

The measure, drafted by the Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Commission, is designed to create a sound environment for research and to improve institutions of higher education through greater independent innovation abilities.

The city will set up a financial support program to encourage universities and colleges to conduct basic scientific research.

The fund will support two types of research projects — general projects and key projects.

General projects will support scientists to independently select research topics and to conduct innovative research so as to promote balanced and sustainable development in each subject.

Key projects target research that has already achieved fundamental results to encourage in-depth research so as to make further steps in the leading fields.

The program is made for full-time universities and vocational colleges that are located in Shenzhen (including Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone), were legally built and conduct higher education as well as research on basic scientific subjects.

Qualified universities and colleges can submit research plans to apply for the financial support every three years.

The measure requires that universities and colleges organize a review on research projects within six months of the projects’ completion.
