THE average salary offered to college graduates by companies in the first six months of the year was 5,312 yuan (US$760) a month, a decrease of 2.4 percent over the same period last year, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported. The demand for graduates in the sectors such as tourism, advertising, media and finance has been reduced due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a report on the competitiveness of 2020 college graduates released by BOSS, an online recruitment platform, said Wednesday. The report showed the demand for college graduates had rebounded to 85 percent of that in the same period of last year, and 83.2 percent of college graduates in Shenzhen had applied for jobs in the city, the highest among Chinese cities. Among the 30 disciplines with strong employment competitiveness, science and engineering took up two-thirds. The expected salaries of students graduating from science and engineering were 6,325 yuan and 6,025 yuan, respectively. Six disciplines in arts and literature entered the top 30 competitiveness list. The report said that by the end of June this year, the local job application rate of graduates in the first-tier and new first-tier cities had reached the level of the same period last year, with the recovery of business activities and talent flow.
