China’s largest freshwater lake level hits record high

Soldiers strengthen the levee of the Changjiang River for flood prevention in Poyang County, East China’s Jiangxi Province, on Saturday. Poyang Lake in Jiangxi, China’s largest freshwater lake, saw its water level rise to a record high yesterday. At around 7 a.m. yesterday, the water level in Poyang station of the Raohe River reached 22.74 meters, exceeding the 1998 record by 13 centimeters and continued going up, according to the provincial department of water resources.    (Story on P4)China News Service
