Daily crude steel output hits new record

CHINA’S daily crude steel output rose 2.4 percent in June from a month earlier, official data showed Thursday, setting a second straight monthly record as mills cranked up production on robust construction activity and a pick-up in manufacturing.

Output in the world’s top steel producer hit 91.58 million tons last month, or 3.05 million tons a day, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed. That was up on a daily average of 2.98 million tons in May.

Brazil asked to stop exports from 2 meat plants

THE Chinese Government has asked Brazil to suspend exports from two meat plants over concerns about novel coronavirus outbreaks in food-processing facilities in the South American country, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said.

China has already blocked exports from six meat-packing plants in Brazil, the world’s second-hardest-hit country in the pandemic, with nearly 2 million cases of the respiratory disease. Of the two additional plants China would like to block, one produces beef and the other processes poultry, the person said.

Rare earth mining quota hits record high

CHINA hiked its mining quota for rare earth minerals by 6.1 percent in 2020 to a record annual high, the natural resources ministry said.

China is the world’s dominant producer of rare earths, a group of 17 minerals used in everything from consumer electronics to military equipment. The quotas are closely watched as a supply indicator and typically issued twice a year. The full-year rare earth mining quota has been set at 140,000 tons for 2020, up from 132,000 last year and includes 120,850 tons of light rare earth ore and 19,150 tons of heavy rare earth ore.

Jiangxi’s Fenyi to hold flax textile expo

AN international flax textile expo will be held in Fenyi, eastern China’s Jiangxi Province from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 this year, according to a press conference of the expo held Wednesday in Shenzhen.

This year’s expo integrates industrial exhibitions, fashion releases, design competitions and other activities. Known as the hometown of “Chinese grass cloth” and “the renowned ramie (China grass) textile town,” For thousands of years, Fenyi has accumulated flax culture wisdom with the geographical advantage of ramie planting, the long history of the technology of flax spinning and the inheritance of ramie culture.
