Tokyo’s cases drop

THE Tokyo metropolitan government said Monday that 131 new daily COVID-19 cases had been detected in the capital, marking the 19th straight day that more than 100 new daily infections had been confirmed.

The latest single-day tally, which edged below the 200-mark for the first time in seven days, compares to 239 COVID-19 cases recorded on Sunday, the metropolitan government said.

Unemployment in India

INDIA’S rural unemployment rate rose for the second consecutive week and the urban job loss continues to remain high, data released by an economic research house, Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), said Monday.

Illegal immigrants

THE Turkish coast guard captured 23 illegal immigrants off Turkey’s Aegean coast, a local media outlet reported Monday.

The Turkish coast guard stopped 23 Afghan migrants off the Didim district in the western province of Aydin who were allegedly intending to sneak into Greece in two boats, the Haberturk daily said on its web site.
