Robber caught after writing demands on receipt
    2020-08-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A BUNGLING bank robber in the U.K. was caught after writing a list of demands on the back of a receipt from a shop he had been to, a court heard.

Daniel Healey, 42, passed Santander staff a note reading “Don’t Panic!! Put all bank notes in the bag! I promise if you do as I say no one will get hurt. Don’t be a hero – I’m sorry to do this.”

He fled when cashiers triggered the alarm but left the incriminating message behind.

Police checked the receipt and realized it was from nearby health food store Holland & Barrett.

CCTV showed Healey in the shop before carrying out the raid in Manchester city center.

His fingerprints were found on a Tesco bag, which he had asked staff to fill with money.

Healey had also robbed a Coral bookmakers of £285 (US$373) two days earlier by pretending he had a weapon in his pocket.

At Manchester crown court, he admitted robbery and attempted robbery in March last year and was jailed for 12 months.

His lawyer Mark Friend said: “This offending followed the breakdown of a relationship. He began gambling while he was working hard with a good income and employment prospects.

“He had turned to loan sharks to pay off his gambling debts.

“The defendant recognized they are not people to whom you can say no and he came to behave in this way following threatening phone calls from them.”

Sentencing Healey, of Blackley, Greater Manchester, Judge Alan Conrad QC said: “Your incompetence when you turned to crime was clear… the evidence you left behind was overwhelming. This was not a successful robbery.”
