HONG KONG’S Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 80 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 yesterday, the second day when the daily additional cases fell below 100. The newly reported cases, including five imported cases and 75 local infections, brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hong Kong to 3,669. Among the local cases, 43 are related to previously confirmed cases, mostly involving clusters due to family or friend gatherings, while the remaining 32 cases are with unknown source of infection, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP’s Communicable Disease Branch, said at a media briefing on Tuesday afternoon. Lau Ka-hin, a chief manager of Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority, said at the briefing that another four patients with confirmed infection passed away over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from COVID-19 in Hong Kong’s public hospitals to 41. As of 9:00 a.m. yesterday, 2,141 patients with confirmed infection had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, while 1,298 patients are hospitalized, including 43 in critical condition and 52 in serious condition. The mainland reported of 36 newly confirmed cases Monday, including 30 locally transmitted ones. Of the locally transmitted cases, 28 were reported in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and two in Liaoning Province, the National Health Commission said in its daily report. On Monday, six new imported cases were also reported. Of the cases, four were reported in Guangdong Province, and one in Shanghai Municipality and Sichuan Province each, the commission said. One newly suspected COVID-19 case imported from outside the mainland was reported in Shanghai. No deaths related to the disease were reported Monday. On Monday, 17 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said. (Xinhua) |
