When you take the new Metro Lines 6 and 10, don’t forget to check out some of the stations that have come to life with dozens of public art pieces. A diverse range of site-specific artworks in the forms of sculptures, reliefs, murals, installations and new media, are integrated into the Metro stations, improving the visual quality of transit environments. Since 2016, the Shenzhen Center for Public Art’s “Shenzhen Metro Art Museum” project has installed permanent public art works in stations on Metro Lines 5, 7, 9 and 11 to create a better atmosphere for passengers and enhance the Metro’s functionality as both a transportation hub and an urban cultural space. Recently, the center invited 20 artists to create public artworks for some of the Line 6 stations with the theme “Art +” and transformed the stations into environments where passengers can enjoy the arts as a regular part of their daily lives.(Cao Zhen) |
