THE Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) Hospital, which will be the second public hospital jointly built by Shenzhen and Hong Kong, is scheduled to open at the end of 2026.

Representatives from the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-SZ) attended an agreement signing ceremony held by the city government Friday.

Located in the southern part of Jihua Road in Bantian Subdistrict, Longgang District, the hospital will cover an area of 92,100 square meters and a construction area of 586,400 square meters, with 3,000 beds planned.

The hospital is expected to officially open before Dec. 31, 2026. Construction of the hospital started in December 2019.

In the future, the hospital will bring in key medical disciplines and specialties and high-level medical teams of CUHK and set up departments according to the standards of tertiary hospitals.

It plans to build medical centers covering such areas as precision oncology, cerebrovascular disease, minimally invasive surgery, digestive system, reproductive medicine and fetal medicine, rehabilitation, diabetes, and endocrinology, as well as general practice.

According to the plan, within five years of its opening, the hospital aims to make available all of its inpatient beds with a bed utilization rate greater than 80 percent, and earn the honor of Grade-III Class-A, the highest level of hospital assessment in China.
