Natural gas

THE country’s natural gas consumption is expected to increase in 2020 amid the country’s efforts to step up exploration and development of the energy source, according to an industry report.

Consumption of natural gas is estimated to expand by 13 billion cubic meters to 320 billion in 2020, according to the report compiled by the National Energy Administration together with two other think tanks. Both reserves and output growth hit a record high in 2019, with investment in oil and gas exploration reaching 335.5 billion yuan (US449.6 billion), up 25.7 percent year on year.

Pork demand

CHINA’S pork demand and supply will become more balanced in the fourth quarter, as pig production continues to recover, according to an agricultural official.

In August, China’s pig population rose for a seventh straight month, up 31.3 percent year on year. Sow inventory increased for 11 consecutive months, up 37 percent from a year earlier, said the official with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Some 2,030 new pig farms started operation across the country last month, bringing the total number to 11,123 so far this year, data from the ministry showed.

Trust assets

THE assets of China’s trust industry have been shrinking amid tightened financial regulation to defuse risks, data shows.

Total trust assets reached 21.28 trillion yuan at the end of the second quarter, down 5.56 percent year on year, data by the China Trustee Association showed. The decline came amid continued government efforts to crack down on high-risk shadow banking businesses involving trust companies.
