Safe flight

THE country’s civil aviation industry had maintained a consecutive 120 months of safe flight operations as of August, according to the country’s civil aviation authorities.

A steady nationwide development momentum has continued in the civil aviation sector, said statistics from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

As of the end of August, the country’s civil air transport sector had achieved a total of 85.8 million flight hours of safe operation, CAAC statistics showed.

10 missing

TEN people went missing after a boat loaded with sand sank in waters near the Hailing Island, Guangdong Province, on Tuesday, according to the provincial maritime search and rescue center yesterday.

Rescue forces rushed to the scene immediately after the accident, searching for people on the boat.

A preliminary investigation shows that there were 16 people on the sand carrier, six of whom had been rescued as of noon yesterday, while 10 others were still missing.

Rescue work and investigation on the cause of the accident were under way.

940m Internet users

THE number of Internet users in China had reached 940 million as of June, accounting for one-fifth of the world’s total, according to a report on China’s Internet development released Tuesday.

The Internet penetration rate in China reached 67 percent, about 5 percentage points higher than the global average, said the report issued by the China Internet Network Information Center.
