International investment arbitration contest held
    2020-10-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FDI Moot Shenzhen was held at the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) on Friday, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

This is said to be the first time for FDI Moot, a global arbitration competition, to hold a contest in China.

FDI Moot Shenzhen was hosted by SCIA and organized by Jincheng Tongda & Neal (JT&N), a leading full-service law firm in China.

The event also received support from organizations including the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific.

A total of 34 experts and academics in the investment arbitration field from eight countries were selected as judges of the contest this year.

Nearly 200 students from universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University of China formed 29 teams to attend the first FDI Moot Shenzhen, according to the Daily report.

The 2020 FDI Moot Shenzhen was conducted as a warm-up model, as it will be the qualifying contest for the FDI Moot Asia-Pacific Regional Rounds and FDI Moot taking place next year.

Increasing international investment, the proliferation of international investment treaties and contracts have contributed to the development of international law that defines obligations between host states and foreign investors and relies on internationalized arbitration procedures for resolving related disputes.

FDI Moot addresses such investment disputes.
