Tsutaya Books opens first Chinese store in Hangzhou
    2020-10-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

JAPANESE bookstore chain Tsutaya Books opened its first Chinese bookstore in Hangzhou’s Maison Moree on Sunday.

The Maison Moree project is located in Xihu District of Hangzhou, close to the Xixi National Wetland Park, overlooking the West Lake scenic area across the mountain. With a total construction area of about 230,000 square meters, the project includes 17 individual buildings of different shapes, which together form a central square.

The Hangzhou Maison Moree store is Tsutaya Books’ first bookstore on the Chinese mainland and has an area of over 3,000 square meters. Its second store is expected to open in Shanghai by the end of 2020. The brand’s first store in the southwestern area will be opened in Chengdu. Prior to this, Tsutaya Books announced its mid-term expansion plan in April 2020, aiming to open 1,100 stores in China.

Tsutaya Books was established in 1983 in Japan and operates about 1,400 stores worldwide, including 1,300 in Japan. Its flagship store in Daikanyama in Tokyo was named one of the 20 most beautiful bookstores in the world by culture website Falvorwire.
