Kashgar reports 137 new asymptomatic COVID cases
    2020-10-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

NORTHWEST China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region had reported 137 new asymptomatic COVID-19 cases in the city of Kashgar as of 2 p.m. yesterday, after a massive COVID-19 testing program following an asymptomatic COVID-19 case  reported Saturday.

The National Health Commission yesterday sent a working group to Xinjiang to oversee COVID-19 pandemic control work.

On Saturday, a 17-year-old villager in Zhanmin Township of Shufu County, the Kashgar Prefecture, tested positive during a regular nucleic acid test.

The patient  has been placed under quarantine for medical observation at a designated hospital in Kashgar.

All the patient’s close contacts have been quarantined for medical observation and nucleic acid testing.

The local disease control and prevention center has started an epidemiological investigation into the case.

The city is expected to finish testing all its 630,000 residents in two days.

Classes at all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens will be temporarily suspended until Friday. Shopping malls will be open as usual to ensure sufficient daily supplies.

The Kashgar airport has resumed operations and flights can enter and depart the region as normal, but all departing passengers must show a negative nucleic acid test report before they can board a flight. Bus operations in the city have been suspended, media reported.

Xinjiang must make every effort to control regional cases and widespread nucleic acid testing in Kashgar will be carried out, Chen Quanguo, Party chief of Xinjiang and head of Xinjiang’s anti-pandemic group, said at a video conference Saturday.

Every second counts and every effort must be made to carry out epidemiological investigations and cut off transmission channels to ensure that the virus does not spread, Chen said.

As part of normalized anti-pandemic prevention and control, Chen said Xinjiang will continue to insist on finding fever patients and implementing routine monitoring and early warning mechanisms in key locations. The tight lines of defense in port sanitation and quarantine, cold chain food supervision, and disinfection in logistical procedures will be strictly maintained.
