Accessible facilities required at bus stations
    2020-10-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A GUIDELINE for constructing public bus terminals was recently released, indicating which accessible facilities should be equipped at each station, sources from the Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau said.

The guideline sets clear requirements on bus terminal construction on its functions, facilities and relevant standards. This is the first guideline to regulate construction of bus stations in the country.

Under the guideline, bus stations will be divided between two types according to different functions: a comprehensive bus station and a transfer bus station. Both types of stations will transfer passengers, as well as manage and dispatch buses, while a comprehensive station will also serve as a parking lot with recharging facilities.

The guideline also requires each bus station to set up blind tracks, wheelchair ramps and accessible restrooms. Where conditions permit, waiting spaces for passengers in wheelchairs should be made available. Each space for a wheelchair should be no less than 2 square meters. (Chen Siqi)
