AN underwater robot, Gladius II, developed by Shenzhen Chasing Innovation Technology Co., won gold in the category of Concept Design at the 10th Guangdong Governor’s Cup Industrial Design Contest recently.

It was chosen from 707 entries at the final contest that was divided into categories of Product Design, Concept Design and Industrial Design. Gladius II, designed for professional users and specific industries, can be used at a depth of 100 meters. Weighing less than 5 kilograms, the batteries of the robot can be replaced underwater. It has played an important role in vessel inspections, emergency rescue, environment monitoring, fishery and aquatic farming.

Guangdong Governor’s Cup Industrial Design Contest originated from Guangdong Industrial Design Contest in 1999. It is held every two years and has become an influential event in the industrial design industry in China. (Han Ximin)
